Laptop appeal

A promised allocation of laptops to schools has been cut and delayed by the Government which means many children in the current lockdown are stuck at home without access to online learning from their school. Schools across Northamptonshire have asked for help with providing laptops to their pupils.

Daventry Lib Dems are supporting The Daventry Food Bank/Daventry Vineyard Community Church who are running a service to try and secure laptops/devices for children.

We are offering to help collect laptops from local residents and drop them off to the foodbank so they can be refurbished and distributed to local schools.

All computers donated will have their hard drives replaced with SSD (solid state drives) which will also give older machines a fresh lease of life.The SSD replacement drives costs around £17. If the laptops are not WiFi enabled they can be made so using USB dongles which will cost around £6 each. In some instances webcams may be required if the device is without an inbuilt camera and this will cost around the £25-30.

Please note: laptops or tablets which are older than Windows 7 cannot be used.

So if you have a laptop to donate and:

  1. You would like us to collect it from you then please contact Rosie Humphreys via email here and also download and complete a form here to include with your laptop;
  2. or if you would like us to get in touch with you - please complete our form here;
  3. or if you can drop off the device yourself then the Vineyard Community Church have a Device Donations webpage which you can use to register your device and arrange to drop it off directly at the Daventry food bank.

Can you also make a donation towards the cost of the refurbishment?

With the cost of refurbishing laptops from around £17 donations are also needed to help update any donated devices.
