Daventry Constituency

As the most effective opposition at County Hall, Liberal Democrat county councillors are fighting hard to protect key local services and provide value for money. Since taking control of County Hall in 2005, Conservative councillors have wasted millions and have ideologically slashed services for the young, elderly and the disabled. This has inevitably led to the situation that the county finds itself with the arrival of commissioners imminent.

On Daventry District Council, too, Conservative councillors have shown too much disregard for the most vulnerable in our society, and a lack of opposition has led to a cavalier attitude, with projects pushed through without a full understanding of costs and implications.

We believe it is time for a change!

Liberal Democrats in Daventry are once again a growing force, having welcomed a number of new members since the 2015 General Election, and run regular meetings, social activities and campaign events for our members. We are also working hard to defend Britain's membership of the European Union by making the case that Britain's membership of the EU gives us more jobs, more trade, better employee protection, a better-protected environment providing us more influence in Europe and beyond. We are working hard to make this case in conjunction with campaigners from right across the political spectrum.

The Daventry Liberal Democrats have two District Councillors. We are a growing force, fighting all 12 of the seats up for election in last year's District Council elections, one more than Labour, and helping to re-establish the party as one of the main challengers to the Conservatives.

In Parliamentary terms, the party came second to the Conservatives in the 2010 General Election.

The next Daventry District Council Elections will be in May 2019, due to the reorganisation of Northamptonshire County Council.
