Brexit Disaster

bird

We're Back!

Well, we didn't have the opportunity to fight an election this time, but national results have been very encouraging and were it not for the incompetence and blind dogma of the Conservative administration at Northamptonshire County Council, we would have repeated the national success in Daventry.

Manifest

Join the Liberal Democrats here

The Liberal Democrats are the only party fighting to keep Britain open, tolerant and united.

Open means open-hearted, open-minded, forward-looking, modern, green, internationalist and pro-European. We believe Britain is at its best when it is creative, innovative and outward-looking, comfortable in the fast-changing modern world and open to the opportunities and challenges of globalisation and the digital revolution.
Tolerant means diverse, compassionate and generous. We will always fight injustice and stand up for the underdog, the outsider, the individual, the minority and the vulnerable against the powerful.

United means we will always put the interests of the whole United Kingdom first. We reject the divisions in society, whether between young and old, urban and rural, leave and remain, or between regions and nations. We believe we are stronger - as communities, as a country and as a world - when we work together in our common interest.

We believe in Opportunity. That everyone, no matter what your background, should have the same chance in life. We want to fight injustice, reduce inequality and break down the barriers that hold people back, whether it is in schools, the workplace or anywhere people are denied a fair chance.

That starts with a strong and stable economy, fit for the long-term, without which we can't have a strong NHS, good schools and decent public services, and without those creating opportunity is impossible. We are the only party that combines economic competence with a plan for strong public services

Well, it's confirmed. Theresa May is on manoeuvres again and will try to force the Withdrawal Agreement through Parliament in the week starting 3rd June. Anyone else think this is getting a bit embarrassing?

For those keeping count, this will be attempt number 4 at pushing this failed deal through Parliament. Each and every time it's been put to the Commons so far, it's been rejected - twice by record margins.

As Brexit drags on, it becomes clearer every day - it's a national embarrassment. More and more people are realising how important EU membership is for our country and our future.

Theresa May is trying to push through a deal that panders to her party's extreme fringe and Nigel Farage. Again and again, Jeremy Corbyn has helped her, letting down Labour supporters across the UK.

    Corbyn's dodgy comments.

Trying to stitch up a deal behind closed doors.

Shadow ministers bragging how they're bailing the Tories out on Brexit.

Jeremy Corbyn has teamed up with the Tories to drag us out the EU at any cost. Labour is a pro-Brexit party.

Let's compare and contrast that to the Liberal Democrats.

We launched a new poster in London today, calling out Jeremy Corbyn's dodgy Brexit voting record.

With a weak minority government, he could have stood up and put an end to this national embarrassment. But instead, he's voted with the Conservatives 29 times to push Brexit through.

Actions speak louder than words. Labour is a Brexit party.

Content warning: this blog post will discuss issues relating to eating disorders

It's mental health awareness week, and this year's theme is body image. Many people who suffer from ill mental health, such as having an eating disorder, still don't get the support they need. This needs to change.

We need early intervention, better training for doctors, and standardised waiting times for adults, like we have for children.

There was a new round of EU election opinion polling in this weekend - and the Lib Dems are performing amazingly!

The data released has us between 12 and 15% - the highest we've been in years, with big increases in all 3. If we carry on this momentum, we could well record our best European election showing - ever! We're already well above the Conservatives - and getting close to challenging Labour for second place.

We are a proud European party, and we want to keep it that way!

As a part of us wanting to remain in the EU, we are excited to announce our new joint project with the German liberal party Free Democratic Party.

It will allow you make direct contact with a new German friend to exchange ideas to help bridge the divide that has been caused by nationalism and misconceptions.

WARNING: there are naughty words ahead. Stray political editors from the Daily Express may find their sensibilities offended!

We launched our EU manifesto yesterday: Bollocks to Brexit. It's as bold as the name suggests - committing us to:

    ✔︎ A People's Vote
✔︎ Defending our fishing rights from being traded away
    ✔︎ A carbon-neutral EU by 2050

    Brexit latest

They say sailors should not complain about the sea, and - accordingly politicians shouldn't complain about the media.

Nonetheless, it is one of the frustrations of leading a relatively small (if high quality) group in the House of Commons that we sometimes struggle to get the media coverage we deserve. Likewise PMQs, where I am called only once a month despite our party having secured more than double the vote of the SNP, whose leader is called twice a week!
